SSRAV Club Day

29th November 2009
We got the Broadford meeting in !! It rained quite a bit in the days leading up to the meeting but the track turned out to be extremely good after being a bit on the heavy side during practice. I was glad to get a meeting in at all but the racing turned out to be better than usual. Speedway is strange isn't it ?

Ty Proctor was way too classy and his third to first ride in heat 8 was the ride of the day by a long way. All you could do was applaud the way he fought back from third after messing up the start and to be honest he made it look rather easy. After the meeting he said he was dirty on himself for missing the start but the rest of the heat sure looked good from where I was sitting.

Mark Jones on the comeback trail was again impressive and his highlight was his second ride where he took Dakota North up the inside on lap 2 to record the win. A word on Mitch Goodwin, even though he only came fourth on the day it was the way he accumulated his points that was most pleasing. In the past he has left himself open to accusations he can be a trifle erratic but there is no signs of that this season and he is riding with his head and deserves mention.

Both the Solo B grade and the Evolution class were dominated by Adam Bond and Wayne Morrison who both recorded two wins and two seconds in both classes !! Some great tussles between those two which while some seconds slower than the A grade solos they were certainly very entertaining.

The 250 sidecar class was again another clean sweep by Andrew Timmerman although in one heat he was headed for a lap by Steve Radford and he could have easily been an Australian politician when with a big beaming smile said after the meeting "I'll keep the bas&#@ds honest !!" I can't wait to see the celebrations when Radford wins a heat.

The big sidecars suffered from Simon Hartley being absent due to work commitments and Mark Radford notched up an untroubled four wins out of four starts. Special mention also has to be made of the Mick Evans 500cc grasstrack sidecar with the chair on the right hand side of the bike and which ran anti clockwise. The rider position looked strange as it looked like Mick was sitting upright in an armchair, the passenger leaning the wrong way looked strange .... come to think about it everything looked strange but they sure had some fun on it.
Thanks to Howard for the Results.
